The Banana Republic Artist Profile and History

Some of you remember the song titled Banana Republic. Actually there are two popular songs by that title. One of them was released in 1980 by the Irish band Boomtown Rats. There version of the song was written to protest against Ireland's government. This Banana Republic artist profile began when they were rejected by the Republic of Ireland. The other popular song with the same title was sung by Jimmy Buffett in 1977. Buffett's version was written by Steve Goodman the previous year. The term itself was intended to refer to any small unbalanced government even though it often is directed to Latin American governments.
